For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Col. 1:19-20

In addition to ‘peace’ the word Shalom also means reconciliation or the restoration of a relationship. Every one of us was separated from God by sin in our lives. The perfect, holy nature of God meant that it was impossible for human beings ruined by sin and its effects to ever have true relationship with God.

No matter how hard we work, no matter how many sacrifices are offered, no matter how ‘good’ we might be it is impossible to find true Shalom in this world based on our own efforts.

But here is the amazing thing; God had a plan, a plan to bring lasting shalom to mankind, to deal with the problem of sin and reconcile all of us to God. Notice here that it is a plan that pleased God. Jesus – fully God physically made peace (shalom) through His blood, shed on the cross.

His blood, His identity as the Son of God, His death and life has made reconciliation possible.

Today, because of Jesus’ blood there is nothing that comes between you and God. He has made Shalom – He has reconciled you, He has restored the relationship. Today live in it, walk in it and enjoy the Shalom of God in all you do!
