And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb.  Romans 4:19

As we have been looking at the faith of Abraham this week, we have seen that the promise was given in grace and received by faith in the context of a situation that declared there was ‘no hope.’

Rarely does the fulfilment of the promise come with the promise, there is almost always a time delay coupled with a situation that contradicts the promise.  During this time delay it is important to remember that our focus affects our faith.  Our initial energetic faith can be severely tested if we don't see any change in our situation, or the situation worsens.

Abraham chose not to consider his current situation, he wasn't in denial, he was still 100 years old and Sarah was still infertile but he did not to allow these contradictory circumstances to weaken his faith by continually focusing on them.

The seed that produces a harvest must first be planted and for a while nothing is seen, but the farmer doesn't dig it up everyday to see if anything is happening, he knows the harvest will come.  The word of God (the promise) is the good seed that produces good fruit in our lives.  Don't allow your current situation to weaken your faith by over-focusing on it, allow the promise to be firmly planted in your heart by focusing on it instead.
