John 1:12 - “But to all who did receive Him, to those who have yielded Him their allegiance, He gave the right to become children of God.”

The rights as a child of God bring with them the power of attorney, as in the right to call on the name of Jesus and to pray in His name.

We also have the power of choice - our right to make decisions for ourselves.  People call that freedom.  It is that choice Paul describes in Galatians 5 as the choice between being filled by the Spirit or to feed our sinful nature.  In Romans chapter 12 he encourages us give our lives over to God as a living sacrifice; a choice to obey Him and live for Him.

Then there is the power of The Holy Spirit within you; the dynamism of God in our lives to live above our circumstances.  It is an explosive and powerful force.

It was this power within John that gave him courage to enable him to go all the way to the cross with Jesus when others ran.  His faith stood the test of time and found him as an old man exiled on the Island of Patmos for his faith in Jesus.  This was power truly demonstrated in the life of someone whom Jesus loved and who loved Him in return.

1 Corinthians chapter 1 tells us that God chose the foolish and weak people in this world to reveal His wisdom and power.  Our weakness an opportunity for God’s power to be displayed.  When others see our lives transformed by God’s power, knowing that we couldn’t do it on our own then He is revealed.

Do you want to know God’s power in your life today? Admit your weakness and choose to depend on Him; He will not let you down. He has given you the power of attorney, the power of choice and His Spirit who is the source of dynamic power to live.
