Hebrews 12:1-3
“12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”
I love to hear stories of people doing well. I have so many friends, relations and acquaintances who have gone on to engage in fantastic jobs or life experiences that just blow me away. From playing with well-known musicians and bands to taking up senior roles in government or becoming sports men and women who make their mark in their respective fields, these people have become amazing at what they do. They are thriving and as they do so it gives me more opportunity to ask questions and listen to their wealth of amazing experiences.
It’s the same when we thrive in our relationship with Christ. The Bible tells us that all of Heaven cheers us on, we have a great cloud of witnesses that surround us. It’s the heart of the Father that we thrive and succeed, he loves to see us be a blessing to others.
When we bless others, we find that we are able to share the hope that is within us, our thriving and our blessing opens up conduits for further encounters with Christ. Through this others can discover their identity in Christ and begin to be rooted and grow in the love of God. These are huge, world changing concepts that are so undoubtedly simply we often end up overlooking them. Let’s not, this is where we and the Gospel can thrive.
As you progress in life today, take this as a reminder to lay off every weight and mind-set that holds you back, see your identity in Christ Jesus for what it is and begin to run your race with enthusiasm. Grow in the word of God and his love for you.
