Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5:15,16
Have you ever been so busy that you haven’t been able to keep up? What was your response? I know what my first response is – work harder, faster, longer! This response has the potential to result in burnout.
When Jesus started to heal the people, crowds flocked to him so they could partake of the same healing and deliverance. Such was the demand on Jesus that at times he could have ministered constantly, but often we read that he ‘sent them away’ (Mark 6:46). At these times he withdrew to a lonely place to pray, it was here that he was refreshed, refilled and refocused so that he could return in the power of the Spirit (Luke 4:14).
This is a question of quantity over quality, do we want to respond to demand by the quantity of more hours and effort or do we want to respond to demand through the quality of the power of the Spirit within us?
I think we all know which response yields best results – take time out!
