“Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” Colossians 3 v 24

Last year my wife and I made a will. While we've no intention of shaking off this mortal coil for a while yet, it seemed like a sensible idea to get this item dealt with so there would be no complications in the future.

As we've only one son, it wasn't very complicated as he clearly is our sole heir. He will inherit what we have in the future, not because he has worked for it, or his behaviour has been perfect. It is because of who he is and how he is positioned in our family.

In Romans 8:17 Paul says, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ..". Therefore, because God has made us His children, we have full rights to receive the inheritance that He has promised us. We are the beneficiaries of all that Jesus has because God has repositioned us from being a slave to a son! We did not earn it or work for it. We receive it because Christ is in us and when God looks at us, he doesn't see our sin, He sees the sacrifice of Jesus.

No matter what troubles or strife may come this week, always remember that the creator of the universe calls you a son and daughter. See yourself as God sees you and get ready to receive all the good gifts that you have inherited.
