‘Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grown into God’s love and keep you strong.’ Ephesians 3:17
At this time of year we see the bright yellow flower of the dandelion everywhere – from our gardens to the tiniest crack in the pavement. Gardeners hate them because no matter what you do they are impossible to eradicate completely – they’re true survivors!
The reason for this is their root system – they have tap roots, a single root going deep into the earth. It’s virtually impossible to pull it all up in one go and if the tiniest bit remains it’ll grow back again.
We need ‘tap roots’ into God’s love. As our relationship with God develops so our understanding grows of how much He loves and cares for us – and that root goes deeper and deeper. When we are shaken or broken that root endures and we survive and blossom again.
