"Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

Matthew 11 : 11

John the Baptist was an amazing man. He held the honour of being chosen by God as the forerunner to the Messiah. John’s mission was to personally prepare the world for Christ’s arrival. Jesus called him the greatest prophet there ever was. That elevates his status above all the  prophets we read about in the Old Testament!

But Jesus next statement is mind blowing. "But he that is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he". That is you and I ! Our position in Gods kingdom is above John not because we achieved more than he did or lived our life better than him. It's all about Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. John was never born again with Christ's Spirit living inside him. He didn't live in the Kingdom of God that was established by Jesus after his sacrifice on the cross and didn't benefit from all the promises of the new covenant that we can receive today.

Today, if you're feeling unworthy, or think you make a poor Christian. Remember, Christ lives in you. Jesus' finished work on the cross has elevated you above how you or others see yourself. He has bestowed "greatness" on you, so lift your head up, look to Jesus and praise His name.
