“Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.”
Philippians 2:4 (NCV)
The world in which we live is very much focused on self and what you as an individual are entitled to, have rights to or should be doing or buying to help achieve the ‘perfect’ life. This is part of the consumer mentality which has ‘me’ at the centre.
As a community of believers, we need to be counter cultural and choose deliberately to take the ‘me’ blinkers off. We need to choose to set our stall out to place value and importance on not just what we are doing and going through but also on the lives of others.
We need to show empathy with them as they walk through difficult circumstances, celebrate together with them as they experience success, show sympathy with them as they experience loss and rejoice with them in the mile marking events of life.
Shared experience binds us all more closely together on our shared journey and you will find yourself benefitting as a result. So lift the phone, make that call, send that text, email or card, go for coffee or go round for that visit or meal.
It matters way more than you may think.
