Isaiah 43: 19 (MSG)

“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands”.

Whilst on holiday in Lanzarote, we took a trip to Timanfaya National Park to visit the active volcano.  We were guided around the various bits of ground that had been damaged and destroyed by previous eruptions.

This land is barren and is made up of dry volcanic ash and rock. It has been uninhabited by humans since 1824, apart from the masses of tourists who visit daily to see the remains.  However, there are signs of new vegetation dotted around.

God reminded me of the verse above about how we have hope regardless of what we can see with our eyes.  Looking at this land we would think nothing can grow here, nothing will change.  Of course we know His supernatural power can bring hope to the most hopeless of situations.

Our good God is capable of turning any dry land into a well-watered one as he is the living water.  He can and longs to bring new life to each one of us.

In this New Year, forget the past despite what your eye can see, and keep a look out for the signs that our God is on the move in your life.  Let the Holy Spirit wash over you and your situation today.  Keep close to Him and wait for your desert to become a river!
