"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have--Jesus Christ.  1 Corinthians 3:11

It was about 30 years ago when I first stayed in Kilkeel at the CEF accommodation.  I remember seeing a tiny little wooden sign on the wall that had written on it, ‘Only one life will soon be past, only what’s done for Jesus will last.’

This little sign struck me hard and has stayed with me over the years.  It has been like a sign post for every decision and a light in dark and confusing times.  It has caused me to ask myself the question on numerous times; “is this for Jesus?  Or is it just for my own selfish ends?”  I am not saying that I am perfect, far from it.  But I am saying that the little sign had such an impact on me, that I have never forgotten its words.

What foundation are you building your life on?  What is the motivation that drives you every day?  My challenge to you today is to consider making Jesus your foundation and your motivation.  At the end of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter 7, Jesus told a parable about two builders.  The one who built his house on the rock found that it stood in the storm.

If you want your life to mean something and if you have storms to survive; I suggest you build on the strong foundation of Jesus the rock.  Only one life will soon be past, only what is done for Jesus will last.
