“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.  Luke 10:41, 42

Yesterday we looked at the importance of perspective.  How we view things impacts on how we cope internally, particularly when we are under pressure.

Today, we see the same principle in the story of Mary and Martha.  Mary and Martha find themselves in the exact same scenario.  Yet Mary experiences peace and joy but Martha experiences stress and anxiety.  You would think if Jesus entered your house there would be perfect peace, clearly not.

Stress and anxiety doesn’t mean the absence of Jesus.  It just means we have allowed ourselves to be distracted by life’s demands.  Stress comes from feeling we are not able to do what we have to do, and depending on our nature some of us will try and do everything to our detriment.

Life’s demands affect our perspective, they distract our focus from the source of life.  Let’s focus on the ‘one thing’ that is really needed – sitting listening to His word and resting in His presence.
