“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.” Eph 1:7-8a

The forgiveness of your sins is given to you by God in accordance with the riches of His grace. Just think about that for a moment…your forgiveness is not given in accordance with your faith, your good works or your ability to live up to some gold standard.

The measuring line that determines the extent to which your forgiveness reaches finds its origin and ultimate destination in God. His perfect, limitless, never-ending love makes it so that your sins are completely forgiven through the blood of Jesus. As a result, you are completely acceptable to God.

No doubt at some stage this week you will have a bit of a wobble – it is so easy to think that God’s love for us depends on our works for Him. Rest assured, He takes great pleasure in lavishing His grace on you. His grace is given to you freely, lavishly and in greater measure than you can ever imagine. There is no regret in His act of forgiveness for you, no reticence in making you His child.

You are no longer a slave, subject to the punishment of the law but you are a child of God. His boundless grace frees you today to be who you are – an heir of all He has for you!
