“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
 for his compassions never fail.They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” Lam 3:22-23 (NIV)

 

It is good to stop and reflect, to look back and take stock. Perhaps as this year draws to a close you are happy to see the end of it or perhaps you look back and see blessing and renewal. The prophet Jeremiah wrote these words in the middle of what was one of the worst periods of Israel’s history. Jerusalem had been ransacked, buildings destroyed and its people carried off to captivity. Earlier in the book Jeremiah writes of how his tears flowed endlessly and there appeared to be no hope of comfort.

 

Yet here in the apparent bleakness of the situation Jeremiah was reminded of God’s love.  Jeremiah knew that God is love and that His compassion never fails – no matter what might appear to be happening on the surface. In the middle suffering God’s compassion for you is new every morning. He is a good and faithful God!

 

Because of His love, He will preserve and protect you.

Because His compassion never fails you can look forward with hope.

Because our God is faithful, you can be confident that wherever you are He is with you.

 

As you reflect on a year that has passed be thankful for the faithfulness of our loving Father and look forward with hope.It is all because of Him and His nature – God loves you, be sure of that! He will never leave or forsake you – that’s a promise!
