“The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 4:23-24

Worship is more than skinny jeans & haircuts. It's more than "gigs" and every other church kid with a guitar wanting to get "signed" and go on tour. Worship is our highest calling. It is exalting Jesus as Lord & King over all that we are & ever hope to be. If you sometimes feel distant in worship then discovering the length, breadth, depth  & height of God's love for you will have your heart crying out to God with thanks. John Piper (!) put it this way..

"Worship must be vital and real in the heart, and worship must rest on a true perception of God. There must be spirit and there must be truth. . . . Truth without emotion produces dead orthodoxy and a church full (or half-full) of artificial admirers . . . . On the other hand, emotion without truth produces empty frenzy and cultivates shallow people who refuse the discipline of rigorous thought. But true worship comes from people who are deeply emotional and who love deep and sound doctrine. Strong affections for God rooted in truth are the bone and marrow of biblical worship."

"a true perception of God" What a line. You do not have to fake being a worshipper. A true encounter with the unmerited, unearned favour of God will mean that your heart will transform from cold & distant to an outpouring of gratitude & thanks. Take some time today and start to thank God for His love. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the incredible manifold nature of His commitment to you. That perception of God will have your heart bursting with worship and thanks back to the one who gave it all for you.
