“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
 Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.” Isa. 55:1 (NIV)

There is no such thing as a free lunch…right? We expect to pay for everything – you know the statement, ‘If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is’. But here Isaiah shows how the kingdom of God is upside down. He calls everyone to come and eat and drink as much as they want without any cost.

Every day I am controlled by my natural hunger and this often dictates how I behave. The problem is of course that it is not long before I am hungry again. Food is good, water is necessary for life but there is sustenancemore fundamental and necessary for true life than the food and water we normally consume.

What are you hungry for? Possessions? Companionship? Significance? Meaning?

Jesus described Himself as the bread of life and that whoever believes in Him will never hunger or thirst again (John 6:35). Wherever you are today, whatever your needs or hungers are – physical things cannot provide lasting satisfaction. The only sure way to be truly satisfied is when all these things are supplied through Jesus.

Don’t try to get your deepest satisfaction in life from food (even really good food). Don’t trust in ‘bread’ (or stuff), trust in God.

Are you hungry?

Jesus loves you freely and extravagantly. He wants to bless you and satisfy your deepest needs. Feed on Him - it will last forever.
