Then he (Moses) cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet.  Exodus 15:25

The children of Israel had been travelling in the wilderness for three days and had found no water.  When they finally came across water it was bitter and undrinkable.  Sometimes life can feel like travelling through a wilderness and when we think we have finally found what will satisfy it actually leaves a bitter taste in our mouths.

God shows Moses a tree and when he throws the tree into the bitter waters they become sweet.  The tree is a picture of Jesus.  The bible says that Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law because cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (Galatians 3:13).  At the cross Jesus turned law into grace, He turned our sin into righteousness, our weakness into strength, our death into life, our sickness into healing, our lack into abundance, our fear into courage, our defeat into victory, our chains into freedom and our bitterness into sweetness.

Whatever you are travelling through today, put Jesus in the centre and enjoy the sweetness that He brings.
