“All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you”  Deuteronomy 28:2

I’ve always been intrigued by this verse.  I picture going about doing daily life, minding my own business, when all of a sudden God’s supernatural blessing just comes on me and overtakes me.  To overtake means to come from behind and take over due to being greater, stronger, faster, superior.  Note the blessing comes from behind, we are not chasing it, it is chasing us.

We don't seek God for what we can get, we seek God to get to know Him.  When we put Him first He ensures that all we need is added to us (Matthew 6:33).  I’m not saying we don’t need to ask God for things, I’m saying we need to shift from a perspective of feeling like we are trying to convince Him to meet our needs to a perspective of being so blessed it's impossible not to have our needs met.

Psalm 23:6 says ‘surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life’, we’ve been hearing recently that this is not like some small dog timidly following us about but literally means that God’s goodness and mercy is aggressively hunting us down everyday.  Is it any wonder our cup overflows (v5)?

Today, God’s blessing is hunting you down, my advice – give up and receive with thankfulness!
