“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”
2 Samuel 22:20 NIV
Have you ever felt hemmed in, like things were closing in around you and you weren't sure how you were going to get out? There have been times in my life where the pressure of work, personal circumstances or the actions of others have made me feel like things were wrapping around me, making it almost impossible to breathe.
David knew this feeling well, he had been chased down by Saul, was hiding out in caves, escaped to foreign lands, pretended to be mad, fought ferocious battles, was undermined and betrayed by his own son...he knew what life under pressure felt like. But here we get a glimpse into how he made it through...and not only made it through but was able to thrive.
God brought him into spacious places - to places where he could breathe deeply the freedom he had in God. Why? Because God delighted in him. What a wonderful picture, that God delighted so much in David that he brought him out of all these situations into wide open spaces.
As God's child He delights in you. You are precious to Him and He is delighted with you. He is not disappointed in you or trying to punish you, rather He wants to bring you out into spacious places...not because you have earned it or because you are good but simply because He delights in you.
Whatever is closing in around you today, take comfort that because your Father loves you and delights in you that He will bring into open spaces of blessing.
