“By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.” Heb. 11:27
Some decisions are hard to make. Sometimes doing the right thing can appear to make our life a whole lot harder. It might be a decision about the future, difficult decisions at work or making a tough choice about standing up for what is right.
From an earthly perspective Moses had everything sorted. He was a prince in the courts of Pharaoh, he had a life of privilege and influence but he chose to leave it all to follow God. Moses had encountered God and he could no longer live the same way. Neither the appeal of his current position, nor the fear of the consequences of leaving it, compared to the pleasure of knowing God. He had seen Him who is invisible and everything changed.
Everything changes when we see God. The apostle Paul encountered Jesus and he considered “everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:8). Our position is even greater than that of Moses. As children of God, we have access to the Father at all times. He is happy to see us, He has nothing but love for us and He wants to show us more of Himself.
Do you think you might make decisions differently if the first question you asked was, ‘How does this help me get to know Jesus better?’ I know I certainly would!
