“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus” 1 Tim. 2:5

This verse reminds us that God is unique – He is not just the best among a bunch of gods but He is the only true God. Because He is so far above all other things; it is completely impossible for us to approach God by ourselves. But here we are reminded us that “the man Christ Jesus” has made it possible!

What a fascinating choice of words – the “man Christ Jesus”. Often we disregard the humanity of Jesus and as such are left with ‘half a Saviour’. Because Jesus in His humanity experienced adversity, poverty, abandonment and affliction He made the way clear for us to come to God. He was betrayed, tempted and derided just to make it possible for us to access the Father. The man Christ Jesus made it all possible – it wasn’t our works or our possessions or even our best efforts to do good.

At this time of year, when the fragility and humanity of God’s great deliverance is so clearly demonstrated in the picture of the baby in the manger, remember that because of the man Christ Jesus – you now have free access to God.
