"For nothing will be impossible with God."And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her." Luke 1:37-38
I remember growing up my mum tried to influence my choices. Often there was a lot of wisdom in what she said but as I grew older I realised if I chose her path I would limit myself as she wanted me to choose what felt comfortable to her. Going outside of what she knew scared her and she, in trying to protect me, wanted me to play it safe.
Journeying with God is going to require us to step out of our comfort zones. As we grow physically our bodies stretch and this at times can be uncomfortable. Growing spiritually is much the same. God's plans often don't make sense. His ways are often out of the box. This is what deepens our walk with him as we can no longer lean on our natural senses. We need to lean in to his voice and learn to trust.
That's what I love about Mary's response. She didn't evaluate the angels message in terms of what was logical or what she knew in the natural to be true. Her evaluation was based on what she believed about her Father in heaven. Her confidence was not in herself or her people, it was in her creator.
More than that, I love the fact that she didn't ask hundreds of questions before she accepted what she heard. Her mind was no doubt racing with ifs and buts, however her response is immediate. " let it be according to your word." She was able to recognise that God's wisdom can not be reasoned by the carnal mind. Often when we step out it is with many unanswered questions but when we have absolute assurance of God's love and grace towards us we can walk with confidence into his plans.
