“And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”Luke 1:46-49

I have two young daughters and nearly every day they declare how much they love each other and are "best friends." Then they change their minds depending on what one of them might have done to annoy the other! Having a BFF is a big deal for most of us. We all want to be known, be understood and be loved. It's the way God has designed us. He has created us for intimacy.  We are called to find this first in our relationship with him.

Once we have encountered Jesus and chosen to live our lives for him we embark on a journey of growing in his love. We see that our lives matter to him. He shows up in the tiny details and in great and unexpected ways continually revealing to us that we are precious and that our future in him is awesome.

I love these words that Mary shares. And yet I'm sure it wasn't all plain sailing. Rejected initially by her husband to be. Shunned by family and friends. The path that God had chosen for her certainly had its challenges but we see from these verses Mary had grasped the depth of God's love and affection for her. " he who is mighty has done great things for me." That's the incredible nature of our walk with the Lord. God almighty, creator of heaven and earth steps out of heaven to meet with each one of us. He desires that we encounter him, that we walk side by side with him, growing in our knowledge and experience of his love so that we too may rejoice in the great things he has done for us!
