“The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39“Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.” Luke 8:38-39
Jesus travelled through a storm, He calmed waves and silenced the wind to make sure He met with this man. A man alone, living among the tombs, harming himself but when he encountered Jesus, everything changed.
In this account we read of how Jesus cast a legion of demons from the man and transformed his life. Here we find him sitting, clothed and in his right mind at the feet of Jesus. Learning from the master and enjoying relationship with His deliverer.
It’s just the same when we encounter Jesus - He is the answer for our deepest needs. In Him we find a place of rest, mental wellbeing and relationship.
It is not surprising that the man wanted to stay with Jesus. Once you have encountered the one by whom all things were made and in whom all things are held together - you just want to stay in His presence…I would have felt the same way.
But Jesus encouraged him to go to his own house and share the great things that God had done for him. I imagine it wasn't hard for him to talk about what God had done in his life - everyone could see the difference.
Pray today for a fresh encounter with Jesus, that those around you may also encounter Him and know their lives rescued, restored and transformed.
